Kelly Smith

This year was my 25th as a classroom teacher, and a great one for me. My first year of teaching was with 6th graders, then I moved to 3rd grade for many years, and then moved to 1st. I loved 1st grade but was enticed back to 3rd when openings at our school made it possible for me and three of my best friends to work as grade level partners. In 2005 I received my doctorate in Teaching and Learning and the next year I left my lifelong home in the Mojave desert to experience the breathtakingly beautiful Redwood Coast.

My husband and I live in Arcata. I have one feisty white and gray striped cat who I'm pretty sure is in the running for most photographed feline. Last month I bought a guitar and am a fledgling strummer and picker.

Kelly I love cats, and I know my cat is not the most photogenic cat but he is one of the sweetest cats and he can really get those gophers out of my garden. I would love to meet your pretty kitty. You have really gone from one extreme to another - the desert to the Pacific Northwest! I learned more about you from your bio and I can't wait to have more conversations. Thanks for sharing.

Ladies, I'm thinking we might need a cat-photo section for our blog . . . or maybe Facebook group.

Tracy, maybe we need a pet photo section. Not all colleagues are in love with kitties as much as we are!

Yeah, I don't know what's wrong with them, Stef. :)
